Restoration
In 1995, Didier Repellin was appointed by the Ministry of Culture to restore the French historic monuments in Rome. Among them, the Villa Médicis, built in the 16th century is one of the finest examples of civic architecture. It has been housing the Académie de France in Rome since 1803.
The 1996 master plan shows the restorations to be undertaken and the redevelopment of the UNESCO World Heritage Villa. Since then, several phases of work have been undertaken including restoration of roofs and facades, consolidation of the interior walls, the interior design, the remodeling of artist’s homes and offices and restoration of the gardens (plants, fountains, sculptures).
