Parc des Sources - Vichy (03)

Restauration du Parc des Sources et rénovation de ses abords - work in progress

Covering an area of more than 59 000m², linking the Hall des Sources to the Opéra and Vichy's shopping centre to the banks of the Allier, the Parc des Sources will be a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021 and has been a listed historic monument since 1994. Since it was crated in 1812 at the request of Emperor Napoleon I, it has undergone a number of transformations in line with the development of the spa town, both in terms of its plant dans building heritage. Even today, the park offers 700 meters of Art Nouveau-style galleries, the bandstand, the Fer à Cheval gallery with its boutiques, two shopping kiosks, the Hall des Sources and much more. These are all emblematic elements of the thermal activity and architectural symbols of an era. After a competition and study phase between 2020 and 2022, the project to restore the Parc des Sources and its immediate surroundings has entered the works phase in spring 2023. The works will continue until 2025.
The aim of the Parc des Sources restoration project is to breathe new life into this exceptional heritage an expression of the wild, romantic park inherited from the Enlightenment. Since the competition phase, the project has been based on a strong commitment to cultural and/or natural heritage, while respecting the characteristics that underpin the site's World Heritage listing : rediscovering the invariant elements of the masterly composition of large radiating avenues, ponds and grand perspectives of the original park designed under Napoleon I and enriched under Napoleon III, structured by the thermal activity.
